Over the years we have been fortunate to be blessed to raise numerous outstanding gundog puppies by Guard Rail Spirit. As you look at our guest book and puppy pages the nice comments and pictures sent in by satisfied bird hunters are to numerous to count, but as the saying goes "every good thing must come to an end". That is the tough thing about bird dogs is that it seems like they come and go so quickly, especially the great ones. Spirit is still with us, but decided we needed to find the next great bird dog to continue our quest to raise oustanding gundogs. We have had an an unbelievable amount of joy hunting Hall of Fame member Guard Rail bred dogs over the years and are committed to keeping those genetics alive for years to come. We are proud to introduce Crusader to our breeding program here at Harris Kennels. Gene Casale and Ross Calloway bred Guard Rail to Ross' champion producing female Caladen's Elhew Sarah. Early on Crusader did not show the potential as a field trial dog but did show the characteristics to make an exceptional wild bird dog. Crusader represents the famous cross between Guard Rail and Elhew dogs. Bob Whele himself wrote about the Guard Rail and Elhew cross as one of his greatest crosses of all time. This cross has produced top notch bird dogs over the years. Crusader is a very large dog that has good conformation, a smooth gait and a superior nose. He is medium range and hunts extremely hard and has the know how to find birds. It is our intent to keep the Guard Rail and Guard Rail Spirit genetics alive by breeding Crusader to oustandig daughters of Spirit, decedents of Addition Go Boy, Fiddler and Elhew dogs.
